WebNov 29, 2024 · A wound culture is a sample of fluid and cells taken from a wound for the purpose of identifying the bacteria or other microorganisms that are causing an infection. The culture is usually done by swabbing the wound with a sterile cotton swab and sending the swab to a laboratory for analysis. WebCPT coding for microbiology and virology procedures often cannot be determined before the culture is performed. Requests with only a written order and no test number indicated will be processed according to Default Testing for Virology. Special Instructions Submit one specimen per test requested.
